You Can Win

If you move with a clear goal ahead, you can win:

Man is solely responsible for his own fortunes. Everybody has the potential to grow. He has to grow amidst adversities. It is a folly entrusting the task of our upbringing to the environment, Government, or the Society. Intense desire, hard work and dedication-the trio lead to success. This is what the developed nations teach us. Strong will attracts the mind like a magnet. The first step is creating a longing for achievement  Once the goal is set, the first step is over.

Never think I cannot. Or I have no ability to learn. The potentialities of the brain are tremendous. If you make a computer with the capabilities of the human brain , it will be larger than the size of the earth. Even Einstein utilised only 25% of his brain. Ordinary people are said to utilise only 10-15%. If you utilise 3% of your brain capacity, you can reach heights. Yes ,the possibilities of the brain are infinite. Goals are achieved when hard work follows immense desire. Be decided as to what you will be after 10 years. The decision should match your personality, and tastes.

Enjoy your work. Every moment the body, mind and the soul should work in unison for reaching the goal. There should not be another goal at the moment. Focus on the set goal. Sleep, relaxation, food, routine works and healthy family are contributory factors. Take a pledge to reach the goal. The pledge should influence subsequent decisions and behavioural patterns. Take the goal as a challenge and prepare the body and mind to face it. Once decided, convince your mind of the decision. Speak at least twice a day as to what to do and what to pay for achieving the goal. Visualise the joyous moments of achievement and the appreciation and accolades that follows it. Work hard, body and mind focussed. Muster deep knowledge in matters contributing to achievements. Do not go after trivial things. Keep moving on , focussed.

Change the mindset. Have the mindset of a winner. Think that I am sure to win. Prepare a plan and a project and work with them.

Join hands with the like- minded and march ahead. Close all dents to avoid a possible retreat. Advance with self confidence. There is nothing as failure. Edison failed 10000 times before he succeeded. Edison took each of his failure as a step towards success. Abraham Lincoln failed in everything he did. Lost always when contested for the legislature, Parliament and the Senate. But at the age of 52 he became President of the United States. He learned to win from his failures.

Tomorrow is the result of today’s actions. Do not curse anybody,  even yourself. Do not procrastinate. For, .if you procrastinate , perhaps you cannot do the same thing tomorrow. Be optimistic and self controlled. Do everything with a sense of commitment.

Do not become a floating junk wood. Keep all your promises. Then only you can win others’ confidence. Dress neatly. Let your walk, gaze and speech radiate the confident personality in you. If possible , find a role model to imitate.

Karma-Yoga

>

A few yeras ago I attended a meeting chaired by an erstwhile executive of ours. It was a tiny group of 10. Yet the points highlighted by him still rumbles through the corridors of my psyche. It was around like this:
Be committed
Imagine now our institution as a corporate. Remember!! It had a humble beginning, but with a mission and a greater vision. It accommodates all of us, young and old, superiors and subordinates alike as in a home. Our institution is our home, our mainstay. It gives us our food, reputation .And, whatever social status we enjoy now is on only because of our organisation. We are committed to ourselves and our family members. They are part of our ego. But are we so committed to the institution which is nothing less than our home? Let us introspect and try to find out an answer. What is wrong in loving our organization just the same way we love our family? Nothing wrong. So long as we work here we belong to organisation and our egos belong to its conglomerate ego .Commitment to the cause and mission is the need of the hour. Leaders may come and go. But the organization will still be there in full youth and virility. It is a tree that has grown several years and we are all its leaves. Leaves bud and fall. But the tree remains.
Accept corporate goals
Men and women come and go; so also seasons. There are good and bad seasons, winter and summer. But when we march, hand in hand, minds united we progress. For that, we have to be sincere, steadfast and vision oriented. We should learn to love our organisation the same way we love our family. We may achieve, or fail to achieve. Success and failure both are there and have been there for all who started the walk. It is nature’s rule. But the question is that of the degree of our sincerity and commitment. Let us think of our prowess not of short comings. Let us have a mindset to accommodate into ourselves the corporate goals, objectives and commitments. Decisions may prove right or wrong. Everything depends on how effective we are in executing, and translating those decisions into reality. It is not the size of the army but the skill that counts History teaches us this. There are many instances in history of smaller armies conquering the larger ones mainly because of their will and commitments. The number doesn’t matter. Quality counts
Enjoy the work
Let our thoughts, words and actions reflect our enthusiasm love, sincerity and commitment. This is the positive side of things. Being positive we get less stressed up and less drained up of energies. Negative thoughts are repulsive and consume more energy. Also they lead to dangerous hormone releases that lead us into the clutch of psycho somatic ailments. It causes ill-health. Health researchers, now, are landing on such conclusions. Just being sincere we can enjoy our work. Just practicing love to our superiors and subordinates we can enjoy their presence around us. The superiors are not enemies. The subordinates are not inferiors. When the mind is healthy, even the physically weak is more powerful than he is otherwise. It is not our position in the institution, but it is our sincerity, and committed stance that is important..

Work is worship

The ‘Karma-yogi’ is aware of his task and performs each task with love and devotion. Love and devotion kindles and rekindles our liking for what we have to do. Doing a work which we like to do is less tiresome and strenuous than doing something we do not like. When this principle is translated into practice Karma-Yoga becomes “working in awareness and working in relaxation.”Let us dream of an organization manned by people enthused by the spirit of love and commitment.

Resurrect from slavery.................Be Your Master

By slavery I mean not the traditional slavery system that prevailed all over the world for centuries. That was physical slavery. But slavery continues even today, at a mental level. We remain indebted to thought leaders for their ideas and try to implement them without even thinking whether or not that idea as such works in our context.

What a difference do the words, Information, Knowledge and Wisdom make in you?

More often than not, we hear these words. Everybody wants to be informed. Everybody wants to have knowledge. And, everybody likes to be wise.
We get information from various sources. They are just information, just stimulants for thoughts.
We have to search,  to find some knowledge about it. Information is  not deep. It's superficial'

Knowledge has something more in  it  than an information has. We read books; attend lectures and classes; we see videos and demonstrations. All these, individually and sometimes combined, give us  knowledge. When we apply this knowledge into our work, we simply are borrowing ideas from others. Their experiences control you. Because,  the ownership of your knowledge vests in somebody other than you. You are indebted; you are a slave.

Wisdom, on the other hand is within you. If  knowledge is moon light, which is nothing other than Sunrays’ reflections, which, put in other words, makes the moon indebted  to the sun for its light, Wisdom is the sun's rays itself. The sun has no indebtedness.  The Sun is not a slave, but is a Master. Wisdom is like the sun's rays. Wisdom and you are inseparable. Wisdom is your true light. You are then your own master, not a slave any longer. Do not learn to quote. Let others quote you.  Let this be the watch word of success. Just think over.

How to Spot Out Talents within an organization?

The larger an organization , the more are the chances to find the needed talents within it’s man power flock. At the time of recruitment  the thrust is on the position and on the skills needed for the job . Other skills, if any, go unnoticed. It is common place’ experience that a  candidate fit to become an officer lands up as a clerk or someone in the lower cadre in organizations especially in India. This happens mainly because of three things.
  1. The candidate fails to expose his skills. Or, he fails to identify his potential at the right time so that he goes after selling the talents which he can easily en cash in the job market. A low profile job is easier to get.in the highly competitive job market

2.   The recruiters being on the lookout for  clerks seldom try to find out whether the prospective clerks have better potential to lead.

  1. The candidates that fail to polish their skills go un- noticed at the time of interviews. Lack of ability to express and show case skills at the interview time has failed many skilled candidates even though they had better stuff than those who were selected.

It is important that if  you decide to acquire skills they should be acquired before you reach the upper age limit for applying for any job. There is a maximum age limit fixed for every job and it varies from organization to organization. Suppose, the age limit is 30. If so, even if an employee acquires the talents after that age, it never gets sold out, because he has already chosen the mould of a clerk. Engineers, technically skilled candidates and a lot of   others like them can be found in lower cadres in various organizations.

The CEO must have this in mind and keep a searching mindset. He can invite newer ideas from the grass root level. I remember DR.  U R Anantamurthy,  an educationist, Jnanapith Award Winner and Ex-Vice Chancellor of  Mahatma Gandhi University, a few days before  his leave-taking from  the chair stating in a press release, that, in Kerala he could find so many educated youth in the lower cadres of organizations and Government Departments who according to him were equally or even more qualified than professors , He also suggested that while framing policies it is advisable to collect suggestions  from them also.

It is not a question of lack of skills, but it is a question of their identification by the the higher-ups

Team Building  Through Motivation

Are you the Head of an organization that stood the tallest, a few years ago, but is trailing behind its peers right now?
Are you finding it tough time meeting corporate goals or deadlines as planned?
Do you experience your customers deserting you and running for your competitors?
Do you ever notice the profits showing a declining trend over the past few years?
Again, have you ever found that your employees are quitting jobs and seeking jobs elsewhere?

If so, it is time to change. Why change? When your peers are performing better and external business conditions are stable, the problem is internal. It’s time for you to take corrective steps, to think and act for a change in the right direction.
You may be good, and an expert at managing an organization. You might have taken the reins of your organization just recently and may be thinking that the present condition of the business is the result of the wrongs committed by the predecessors so that you haven’t any say in that.   Remember, all these are lame excuses, because, you are the boss. And it is your organization. History aside, you have to see that the organization fares well under you.How to build up business?
Mend the steps before starting the climb
Everybody wants to climb up the ladder. All eyes are on the top. But Remember. Learn to look down the ladder and see if the lower part is stronger enough to support you at the heights. Before taking next  step see if the steps are stronger enough.
How to Rebuild your Team?
I use the term ‘rebuild’ as I know you have a team right now, a team already working with you watching the whole scenario. What is needed is just a reassembly. You know, football is a team-game. If we look back we can see teams which had the World's top  ranking players in their list miserably failed to win even quarter finals. Instances are many of weaker teams winning the world cup despite the fact that they do not have world title holders in their players’ list, but only because of team work. A well knit team is a source of power to strike against opponents as well as adverse situations.

How to Motivate?
Motivation means creating a natural state of mind in others to give out the best in them. A motivated employee with average skills will be better productive than a de-motivated adept. Motivation creates a chain of positive emotions and when you are positive, your productivity level increases.
Here are some suggestions to improve your team’s performance.
Know the areas of strength, also of weakness
Being the head of a team means managing people. A craftsman knows the strength and uses of each tool with him and applies them accordingly. The team leader should know the strong and weak personality traits of each member of his team and give those positions taking account of their merits .He should also learn the skill and apply them diligently to help the team members come out of their deficiencies, if any. Do not fire, but keep them updated.
Maintain transparency in communication, and interact at short intervals with the employees in a friendly atmosphere
Transparent communication is one firm step towards team building and motivation. It has been our experience with many top level executives that they seldom interact with the subordinates and the grass root level employees. If at all they interact, they prefer not to talk in a friendly manner adhering to the time barred management maxim that ‘Friends cannot be Masters. We can see many of them within our organization and outside. These people do not realize the significance of friendliness in building a team. Friendliness eases up tense situations. Allowing the subordinates to open up lets you understand the way the employees are thinking and helps you take more realistic assessment of the future.  Negative thoughts spoil the work atmosphere. Erase them at the start.
How to correct mistakes?
The employee will come to know of their shortcomings when somebody high lights them. Many team leaders shy away from doing so for fear of demotivation. If at all they do, they speak in an unfriendly tone. Please remember that if somebody secretly tells you about your deficiencies in a friendly manner, you will accept that, because everybody has an intrinsic liking to be seen perfect by others. Deficiencies are indicators of imperfection. But when speaking about in the public, always highlight the positive side of the employees.  You tend to like the persons who speak good things about you. Be sincere, committed and true to your words. It may take some time for your team members to realize this. Once they realize, they would follow you.
Appreciate...Appreciate…Appreciate
Appreciating the team members for whatever contribution they make towards betterment of positions, is one of the motivational tools a Team Leader can employ. Appreciation boosts up the morale and enthusiasm to seek more and more opportunities to contribute. Appreciation makes them feel that their worth is taken account of by the boss which in turn creates a sense of belonging in their minds. Now he is working not for somebody else, but for his own company. When you work for your own organization you are more sincere and committed.
The Talent Bank.
Greater ideas sometimes come from ordinary people. The fact is that we seldom give room for them. But when the same idea comes from famous people and professionals you start thinking on them. When your organization has thousands of educated people there is chance for finding unutilized talents within them.  When you recruit somebody, you recruit them for getting certain skills and talents ignoring his other potentials.  Before going after outside agencies and organizations in search of skills, just give an opportunity to your team members to show case their not yet utilized talents. I am sure; you have better chances to find them within your set up
Welcome suggestions
Everybody has a longing to be considered as important by others, wherever they are, irrespective of their caliber and cadres. Accepting the suggestion of a person is an indirect way of giving importance to him. Acceptance need not mean “going to implement. It only means “noted for consideration.” In day today life we accept so many proposals most of which are rejected in the final stage. Rejecting after scrutiny is not as painful as rejecting a proposal at the beginning itself. So, give the subordinates a chance to put a proposal which they find suitable, and appreciate them and tell them that it will be taken account of before implementing some newer idea. It helps create a sense of belonging to the organization in the minds of the employees. You will be more sincere if you are working for a cause which you think is your own.
I will do….
Let each member of the team speak out to you looking into your eyes:” I’ll do”. When somebody says so, it is commitment, a commitment which involves his whole being. Commitment is deeper than agreement. Agreement need not always involve your being. But commitment does.

Yes you have the ideal and efficient team around you. All the Best
